RAWALPINDI: A gunman who opened fire near the Quran and Sunnah Academy of prominent religious scholar Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza in Jhelum was shot
According to reports, the incident took place while Engineer Mirza was delivering his routine lecture, when an unidentified individual suddenly began firing indiscriminately outside the premises.
During the attack, a police constable identified as Ahsan sustained a bullet injury to his leg and was promptly shifted to a nearby hospital. No other injuries or casualties were reported.
Officials said law enforcement personnel reacted immediately, engaging the assailant in an exchange of fire that resulted in his death, thereby averting a potentially serious situation.
Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani, Regional Police Officer of Rawalpindi, took notice of the incident and called for a detailed report. He also ordered a comprehensive investigation, instructing authorities to trace any individuals who may have assisted the attacker.
Police teams have begun gathering evidence from the site, while security has been heightened across the area. Additional personnel have been deployed at key locations to maintain order.
The scholar has previously been targeted in similar incidents. Earlier this year, in February, an individual attempted to attack him during a photo session at the same academy but was apprehended on the spot.
