Araghchi, Munir Hold Key Talks on Shifting Regional Landscape

Islamabad: Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of Iran, held an important meeting in Islamabad with Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces of Pakistan, according to the Iranian Embassy.

The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties between Pakistan and Iran, enhancing security collaboration, and addressing key issues of shared interest. Both sides also reviewed national security concerns and exchanged perspectives on the changing regional landscape.

The meeting was attended by senior Pakistani officials, including Asim Malik and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

From the Iranian side, the delegation included Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam, and Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei.

Araghchi arrived in Islamabad on Friday and was received by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with Field Marshal Asim Munir and other senior officials.

Separately, representatives from the United States are expected in Islamabad to initiate a fresh round of peace efforts involving Iran, amid a fragile ceasefire in the region. The White House stated that envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would hold in-person discussions with Iranian counterparts.

However, Iranian state media indicated that direct negotiations are unlikely at this stage.

While former US President Donald Trump has expressed optimism about achieving lasting stability in Lebanon, reaching a broader settlement to end tensions across the Middle East remains complex. Efforts are also intensifying to reopen the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies.
