Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab rides electric bike, breaks traffic rules

KARACHI: Mayor of Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, arrived at the Sindh Assembly riding an electric bike, during which he was seen violating traffic rules and later admitted to two infractions.

Reports suggest that the mayor traveled from the KMC head office to the Sindh Assembly on an electric bike to attend an official meeting, attracting public attention as he opted for a two-wheeler instead of a conventional official convoy.

It is noteworthy that despite an active crackdown on citizens over helmet violations, he was not stopped by law enforcement during his ride. He was observed without a helmet and later personally acknowledged that he had violated two rules: riding without a helmet and not holding a motorcycle driving license.

During a light exchange with media, he remarked that he would start wearing a helmet and also apply for a valid driving license.

When a journalist asked whether his decision to ride the bike was influenced by fear of Hafiz Naeem, he replied, “I am not afraid of anyone except God.”

He also shared that 20 electric bikes have already been distributed among KMC staff and more are expected to be provided soon.

Additionally, he noted that while he frequently uses a bicycle, this was his first experience riding a motorcycle.
