Govt moves to restart direct flights between Pakistan, US

ISLAMABAD: Mohsin Naqvi on Friday said that Pakistan is actively pursuing the early resumption of direct air links with the United States, highlighting what he described as strengthening bilateral relations and growing cooperation under President Donald Trump.

Speaking after a meeting with Paul Kapur, Naqvi said both sides discussed broader Pakistan-US relations, regional developments, and security challenges in the Middle East, according to an interior ministry statement.

The meeting was also attended by US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A Baker and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry along with other officials.

Naqvi stressed cooperation in key areas including counterterrorism, counternarcotics, and security coordination, adding that Pakistan has ensured robust protection for US firms operating on the Reko Diq project.

He also expressed optimism for a peaceful settlement of ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, while the US side reportedly acknowledged Pakistan’s contributions to regional stability.

The push for direct flights comes as Pakistan International Airlines recently resumed operations to London after a long suspension, with officials now signaling plans to further expand international routes across Europe, Canada, and potentially the United States.
