WEB DESK: US President Donald Trump concluded his high-profile trip to Beijing after days of warm diplomacy with Chinese President Xi Jinping, but the summit yielded limited breakthroughs on trade and global tensions
Calling the visit “incredible,” Trump said substantial progress had been made during talks held at the Zhongnanhai leadership compound, where the two leaders exchanged praise and attended lavish state events marked by military ceremonies and formal banquets.
Despite the positive tone, investors were left disappointed as the summit produced few major economic agreements. US officials announced progress on agricultural trade and discussions over future commercial cooperation, but details remained scarce.
China also issued firm warnings during the visit, cautioning Washington against interfering in Taiwan and criticising the conflict involving Iran, saying the war should never have begun and must not continue.
Trump said he and Xi discussed Iran and shared similar views on regional stability, including securing the Strait of Hormuz — a vital global oil route. However, Beijing stopped short of offering any clear commitment to pressure Tehran.

Analysts described the summit as symbolically important but lacking substantial policy outcomes. Still, both Washington and Beijing highlighted the importance of maintaining stable relations amid ongoing disputes over trade, technology and security.
Xi described US-China ties as the world’s most significant bilateral relationship, urging both sides to ensure it remains steady and free from major confrontation.
