Court sentences Sana Yousaf’s killer to death; fines Imposed on Umar Hayat

ISLAMABAD: In Islamabad on Tuesday, a court sentenced Umar Hayat to death for the murder of TikToker and medical student Sana Yousaf. Additionally, Hayat was sentenced to ten years in prison under charges related to dacoity, and a fine of Rs2 million was imposed on him.

Sana Yousaf, a 17-year-old social media influencer, was tragically shot and killed inside her Islamabad residence on June 2, 2025. The court’s decision came after a thorough investigation, which led to the arrest of Hayat from Jarranwala on June 3. Eyewitnesses identified him during a police identification parade on June 13.

The case saw over 50 hearings, with the prosecution calling 27 witnesses, including Sana’s mother and aunt. The court officially indicted Hayat on September 20, although proceedings were temporarily paused following high court directives. The final verdict was reserved earlier today. Sana’s parents expressed their relief and happiness over the verdict.

In a media interview, Sana’s mother conveyed her immense satisfaction, saying, “We are overjoyed that justice has finally been served. Our legal team worked tirelessly to ensure that the perpetrator is held accountable,” adding her hope that Hayat faces the death penalty publicly.

Sana’s father, Yousaf Hassan, reflected on the societal importance of the ruling, stating, “This verdict holds great significance for our community.” He extended his gratitude to the media for their unwavering support, along with thanks to the police, judiciary, and friends who stood by their family during this challenging time.
