PANJGUR: Pakistan’s security forces eliminated six suspected militants during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Balochistan’s Panjgur district, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Friday.
The military’s media wing stated that the operation was launched after receiving intelligence regarding the presence of militants associated with Fitna al-Hindustan. Security personnel targeted multiple hideouts during the operation and, following a fierce exchange of fire, successfully neutralised six militants.
According to the ISPR, a cache of weapons, ammunition, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and vehicles was recovered from the slain militants. The statement noted that those killed were allegedly involved in various terrorist activities across the region.
The military further said that clearance operations remain underway to ensure that no remaining militants are present in the area.
The Panjgur operation comes shortly after separate security engagements in the districts of Dera Ismail Khan and Mohmand, where four militants linked to Fitna al-Khawarij were killed.
Reaffirming its commitment to counter-terrorism efforts, the ISPR stated that operations under the national security framework of “Azm-e-Istehkam,” endorsed by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan, will continue to target militant networks and strengthen internal security.
Security measures in Balochistan have been intensified in recent months following a deadly explosion near a railway track in Quetta on May 24. The blast, which occurred close to Chaman Phatak, claimed the lives of at least 14 people, including three Frontier Corps personnel, and left several others injured.
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in militant violence, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the return of the Afghan Taliban to power in Afghanistan in 2021. In response, authorities have expanded military and intelligence-led operations aimed at curbing cross-border militancy and dismantling terrorist infrastructure.
Officials maintain that efforts to combat terrorism and secure the country’s borders will continue, while concerns remain over militant groups allegedly operating from across the border despite ongoing diplomatic engagement between Islamabad and Kabul.
