ISLAMABAD: The National Economic Council (NEC) on Wednesday approved the national development budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, with the total size of the development programme set at Rs4.715 trillion.
During the meeting, the council also endorsed key economic targets for the upcoming fiscal year and reviewed the development budget for the current year.
Participants were briefed on the Annual Development Plans (ADPs) of all provinces, along with the country’s broader development strategy and economic priorities. The council also approved the development budgets of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan.
The meeting assessed public sector investment plans for both the ongoing and the next fiscal years and gave its approval to the monitoring and evaluation report of major national projects.
Chief ministers of Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa attended the session in person, while Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz participated through a video link.
The council also reviewed the country’s overall economic performance and development objectives as part of preparations for the new fiscal year.
