Husband kills newlywed wife after alleged months of abuse over dowry demands, husband booked

KARACHI: An 18-year-old newlywed from Karachi’s Surjani Town allegedly lost her life after enduring months of physical abuse linked to dowry demands, with her family accusing her husband of torture.

The victim, Misba, had entered into a love marriage with Shahryar, who, according to her relatives, began demanding cash and household items soon after the wedding.

Speaking to media, Misba’s mother alleged that her daughter was repeatedly assaulted after the family failed to provide Rs300,000 and additional dowry. She claimed Misba had frequently informed them about the violence and had expressed a desire to leave the marriage.

The family also alleged that Shahryar falsely portrayed himself as a police officer before the marriage by showing photographs of himself in uniform, and later intensified pressure on the family through repeated dowry demands.

Local reports state that Misba eventually succumbed to injuries allegedly inflicted during the prolonged abuse.

Police have registered a case at Surjani Town Police Station, while the accused remains at large. The victim’s family has urged authorities to arrest Shahryar without delay and ensure strict legal action.

Law enforcement officials have initiated an investigation and say efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect.
