KARACHI: Police have arrested a domestic worker accused of stealing 20 tolas of gold jewellery from a residence in Karachi, officials said on Wednesday.
According to investigators, the suspect, identified as Asifa, allegedly took the gold from the house on June 12. Following the complaint, a case was registered at Risala Police Station, after which police launched an intelligence-based operation and arrested her.
During the raid, officers recovered six tolas of the stolen gold from the suspect. Police said the investigation revealed that she had sold one gold set to a jeweller in Hub for Rs2.15 million and additional jewellery worth Rs200,000 to another jeweller in the same area.
Authorities further claimed that the suspect used part of the proceeds to purchase a house in Moach Goth, while some of the remaining jewellery had been kept with a jeweller for safekeeping.
Earlier this year, Karachi witnessed two major domestic theft cases allegedly involving housemaids. In separate incidents reported in Mohammad Ali Society and Bahadurabad, more than 115 tolas of gold jewellery were stolen within a few days.
Police said the Mohammad Ali Society theft alone involved over 100 tolas of gold valued at more than Rs45 million, making it one of the city’s biggest residential theft cases of 2026.
