ISLAMABAD: Senior-most judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Munib Akhtar, was sworn in as the Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan on Monday during a ceremony held at the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry.

The oath was administered by Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui in the presence of Supreme Court judges, members of the Federal Constitutional Court, senior judicial officers, and court officials.

Justice Munib Akhtar will serve as acting chief justice while Chief Justice Yahya Afridi is abroad. During this period, he will oversee both the judicial and administrative functions of the country’s top judicial office.

A number of senior members of the judiciary, including judges and court staff, attended the ceremony, which formally marked the commencement of Justice Akhtar’s responsibilities as Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan.
