G.BALTISTAN: The Gilgit-Baltistan assembly elected its Speaker, Deputy Speaker unopposed on Monday
Imran Nadeem from the PPP secured the position of Speaker without facing any opposition. Similarly, Malik Kifayat-ur-Rehman from PML-N was elected Deputy Speaker unchallenged. The outgoing Speaker, Nazir Advocate, administered the oath of office to Imran Nadeem, who in turn swore in Kifayat-ur-Rehman as Deputy Speaker.
Regarding the Chief Minister position, the PPP has announced Amjad Hussain Advocate as its official candidate for the top executive role in Gilgit-Baltistan. This decision was approved by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Sources disclosed that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had a telephonic discussion with Amjad Hussain Advocate, providing guidance on government formation and emphasizing the importance of safeguarding constitutional and economic rights of the people. Additionally, the party has been engaging in behind-the-scenes negotiations with other political groups in GB to discourage them from fielding separate candidates for the Chief Minister’s post. It is expected that the official announcement of the CM candidate will be made after the assembly’s oath-taking ceremony.
The assembly session has been scheduled for 4 pm tomorrow. It is anticipated that the names of the new Chief Minister and Speaker will be revealed by June 22, with final approval from Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Earlier reports indicated that the PPP leadership has approved the formation of a coalition government in Gilgit-Baltistan, with the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party also likely to join the alliance.
