OKARA: A police officer serving in Okara has been charged in a rape case after a female labourer accused him of sexually assaulting her and later refusing to fulfill promises of marriage.
According to the FIR, the accused, identified as Zeeshan and posted at A-Division Police Station, allegedly persuaded the woman to accompany him to a nearby village where the assault took place.
The complainant told police that Zeeshan had assured her that he would marry her, but later backed out of the commitment. She further alleged that he has been threatening her and appealed to authorities for justice and protection.
The incident comes amid growing concern over violence against women, following another recent case in Lahore where a woman alleged she was gang-raped after being deceived with a fake employment offer.
Police said an FIR in that case was registered at Gujjar Pura Police Station under sections related to abduction and sexual assault. According to the victim’s statement, a man identified as Khalil contacted her with a job opportunity and asked her to meet him near Kot Khawaja Saeed Hospital.
The woman alleged that after arriving at the designated location, she was taken to a house where Khalil and two accomplices confined her and sexually assaulted her at gunpoint. She also claimed the suspects recorded videos of the incident and threatened her with consequences if she reported the crime.
The victim stated that she had become acquainted with Khalil through social media, where he introduced himself as a manager at a pharmaceutical company.
A police official said efforts are underway to apprehend the suspects, who reportedly fled after the incident. Authorities are using mobile phone data and conducting raids to track down those involved.
