TEHRAN: According to official reports, two members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were shot and killed at their residence in the city of Paveh, located in western Iran near the Iraqi Kurdistan border. The incident occurred on Tuesday, but the identity of the attackers remains unknown at this time.
Tehran has historically accused Kurdish separatist groups in the region of orchestrating similar attacks, often alleging links to the United States and Israel. The government described the attack as a “terrorist and cowardly act,” and indicated that investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible. In addition to the fatalities, two other Guards personnel sustained injuries.
Meanwhile, in the southeastern town of Saravan, located in Sistan-Baluchistan province, authorities reported that a family’s vehicle was fired upon on Monday. The attack resulted in the death of the father and injuries to the mother, who later succumbed to her wounds. Details about the perpetrators or motives have not been disclosed.
Iranian officials accused the attack of being carried out by “Zionist-American mercenaries,” a term they frequently use to refer to separatist and militant groups operating in the region.
Sistan-Baluchistan, sharing borders with Pakistan and Afghanistan, has been a hotspot for ongoing conflicts involving security forces, insurgent groups, and drug traffickers. It is among Iran’s most impoverished provinces, with a significant ethnic Baloch population, many of whom adhere to Sunni Islam in a predominantly Shiite country.
