19 Militants eliminated, 11 security personnel martyred in Balochistan operation

QUETTA: Security forces killed 19 suspected militants while 11 soldiers were martyred during an intelligence-based operation conducted along the N-25 highway in Balochistan, according to security sources.

The operation was launched in the area between Jhao Cross and Kararo, where militants identified by authorities as Fitna al-Hindustan were allegedly extorting money from travelers and local residents.

Security officials said the operation was aimed at restoring law and order, stressing that any attempt to disrupt peace in Balochistan would be met with a decisive response. They reiterated that protecting citizens, their property, and the security of key highways remains a top priority.

The latest operation follows Monday night’s deadly assault on a police checkpoint in Ziarat district, where armed attackers stormed the Mangi police post.

According to police, nine officers were martyred during the attack, while five personnel were abducted after an intense exchange of fire. The incident was confirmed by Ziarat Superintendent of Police Abdul Qudoos.

Pakistan has experienced an increase in militant violence since 2021, with Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continuing to face the highest number of attacks.

In response to the deteriorating security situation, Pakistan launched Operation Ghazab lil-Haq, targeting militant hideouts that authorities say operate from across the border. Pakistani officials maintain that repeated cross-border attacks and the continued presence of militant groups have remained a key source of tension despite ongoing diplomatic engagement with Afghanistan.
