U.S. Imposes new sanctions on Iran over oil sales

WASHINGTON: The United States has re-imposed sanctions on Iran’s oil exports.

According to foreign media reports, the U.S. blamed Iran for targeting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz and has now restricted Iran’s ability to sell oil again.

Following a memorandum of understanding, the U.S. had allowed Iran to sell oil until August 21. However, the U.S. Department of the Treasury has now imposed new sanctions, reducing this deadline to July 17.

Iran responded to the U.S. decision by condemning the sanctions, calling them a violation of the memorandum of understanding. Iran’s Foreign Ministry stated that it will respond appropriately to protect its interests and national security, accusing the U.S. of breaching the agreement and holding it responsible for the situation.

It is noteworthy that last month, the U.S. permitted Iran to export crude oil and petrochemical products.
