LAHORE: Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz, has inaugurated the new Green Electric Bus Service in five key cities—Layyah, Chiniot, Sialkot, Okara, and Murree.
At a ceremony held in Arifwala, she described the project as Pakistan’s largest public transportation effort to date. She extended congratulations to residents of these cities as they begin to benefit from the new buses.
Maryam Nawaz revealed that an additional 1,500 buses will be introduced this year, with a goal to reach a total fleet of 5,000 buses within the next five years. She also announced that fares will be waived for senior citizens, differently-abled individuals, women, and students, making travel more accessible.
She reaffirmed her dedication to the development of Punjab, mentioning various initiatives such as distribution of laptops, electric bikes, tablets, and scholarships of 50,000 rupees for students. She stressed that the responsibility of progress lies with every citizen of Punjab and she is committed to their welfare.
