Malir river bridge to be shut for two days due to construction work

KARACHI: The Karachi Traffic Police has announced a temporary two-day closure of the Malir River Bridge on the National Highway to facilitate ongoing construction linked to the Malir Expressway project.

According to an official traffic advisory, construction activities will take place on July 18 and 19, 2026, between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. During these hours, traffic on both sides of the bridge within the Malir City Traffic Section will remain suspended to ensure the safe and timely execution of the development work.

To reduce disruption, authorities have suggested alternative travel routes:

Motorists travelling from Quaidabad should take a U-turn onto Shahrah-i-Bhutto Expressway and continue toward Malir City.

Vehicles approaching from Malook Hotel on the National Highway can use the route beneath the Malir River Bridge and proceed toward Steel Mills.

The traffic police have urged commuters to plan their trips in advance, use the recommended diversions, and comply with traffic instructions to avoid delays. Traffic officers will be stationed at important intersections to assist motorists and help maintain a smooth traffic flow throughout the closure.

For assistance, citizens can contact the Karachi Traffic Police Helpline at 1915. Drivers are also encouraged to listen to FM 88.6 Sindh Police Radio for real-time traffic updates and travel advisories.
