ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of National Health Services is weighing a proposal to introduce an Islamabad Health Regulatory Authority (IHRA) Ordinance as part of plans to enhance the regulatory framework governing healthcare services in the federal capital.
According to the sources, the ministry has initiated work on the draft ordinance while simultaneously reviewing the existing Islamabad Health Regulatory Authority Act with the aim of introducing amendments.
The proposed reforms are intended to modernise the authority’s legal framework, improve governance and strengthen its administrative and regulatory functions.
The move comes against the backdrop of reported disagreements between the Ministry of Health and the IHRA Board over the appointment of the authority’s chief executive officer (CEO).
Sources said the ministry recently extended the temporary appointment of Dr Zaeem as acting CEO for a third time on July 27. However, the IHRA Board reportedly declined to implement the decision and instead appointed Dr Rataba to perform the acting CEO’s responsibilities, reflecting an ongoing dispute over the authority’s leadership.
Neither the Ministry of National Health Services nor the IHRA has issued an official statement regarding the proposed ordinance, amendments to the law or the reported differences over the CEO appointment.
