KARACHI: The Karachi Traffic Police has released a detailed traffic management plan for the upcoming Chehlum procession scheduled for Tuesday, with certain roads set to remain closed for security reasons.
The main procession will begin from Nishtar Park at 9:00 AM. During the event, MA Jinnah Road will be shut to all traffic. Vehicles traveling from Saddar towards Tower will be rerouted via Preedy Street and II Chundrigar Road. Additional diversions will be in place around Lighthouse, Empress Market, Regal Chowk, and Tibet Centre.
Traffic approaching from Shahrah-e-Quaideen will be diverted through Kashmir Road and People’s Chowrangi. Vehicles coming from Korangi, Landhi, and the National Highway will be redirected onto Rashid Minhas Road and the Super Highway. Motorists from Nazimabad can access their destinations via Lasbela, Garden, and Nishtar Road, while those from Liaquatabad will be diverted from Lasbela Chowk towards Nazimabad No 10.
Drivers coming from Hassan Square will be guided through Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Society Light Signal, and Teen Hatti before reaching Lasbela Chowk. Vehicles from Shahrah-e-Faisal will be diverted via Society Light Signal and Sher Shah Suri Road. Those heading from Jamshed Road towards Guru Mandir are advised to take Bahadur Yar Jang Road or Soldier Bazaar Road as alternative routes.
The traffic authorities also announced that heavy vehicles will be restricted from entering the city from 10:00 AM until the procession concludes. Parking along the procession route will be strictly prohibited, and any vehicles parked in violation will be immediately towed.
The Chehlum observance, commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the martyrs of Karbala, will be held on August 4 with religious solemnity and increased security measures.
Throughout the province, various mourning processions featuring Alam, Tazia, and Zuljinah will be carried out, marking the conclusion of the 40-day mourning period observed annually since the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD.
