NA passes national command authority amendment bill amid opposition protest

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Thursday passed the National Command Authority (Amendment) Bill with a majority vote, despite opposition from lawmakers on the other side of the aisle.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif presented the bill, which had earlier received approval from the federal cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Separately, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry informed the House that the Capital Development Authority plans to establish an Education City in Islamabad. He said the CDA also intends to relocate more than 300 schools from residential areas to designated locations.

The minister further clarified that the CDA had not acquired any land reserved for educational purposes in DHA-Margalla Enclave.
