QUETTA: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has registered a case against unidentified assailants following the deadly attack on road construction workers in Pishin, where five labourers were gunned down.
According to CTD officials, the FIR was lodged at a CTD police station under provisions related to terrorism, murder and attempted murder.
The victims’ bodies have been shifted to Quetta and are expected to be transported to their hometowns for burial, rescue officials said.
The attack occurred on Monday in the Sulaiman Zai area of Saranan, where unidentified armed men opened fire on workers involved in road construction. The attackers also targeted construction machinery before escaping from the area.
Police and rescue teams moved the dead and injured to a nearby hospital. Officials said the victims were reportedly residents of Punjab.
Following the incident, a large contingent of police and other law-enforcement personnel arrived at the site, sealed off the area and launched a search operation to locate the perpetrators.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti strongly condemned the killings, saying the attack reflected the “brutal mindset” of terrorists.
He said the workers had been earning a livelihood for their families while contributing to development in Balochistan, adding that those responsible for the killings would not be spared.
The chief minister reaffirmed that security institutions would continue operations against terrorist groups and their facilitators to restore peace and protect citizens across the province.
Balochistan Chief Minister’s Special Assistant on Media and Political Affairs Shahid Rind also denounced the attack, saying the killing of innocent workers would not weaken the people’s resolve or derail Balochistan’s progress towards peace and development.
