KARACHI: Abdullah Bhardey, a vendor linked to the late entrepreneur Mir Raza Ali, appeared before the judicial commission on Thursday and provided a detailed statement regarding his association with the deceased.
During the proceedings, Bhardey clarified that Wafflix was a business run by his brother, Ahmed, and that he supplied chocolates to the company. The commission inquired about Bhardey’s visits to Mir Raza’s residence and whether he found it strange to search the late entrepreneur’s room.
Bhardey explained that he entered the room after obtaining permission from Mir Raza’s mother, with his mother and sister present. “I went into the room, but I did not conduct any search,” he stated.
He added that his last communication with Mir Raza was around 2:30 am on July 28. When asked if Mir Raza owed him money, Bhardey revealed that Mir Raza was supposed to repay Rs750,000, which he claimed was borrowed for crypto trading.
The commission further inquired about Bhardey’s request for the family to pay Rs22,000. Mir Raza’s mother told the commission that the family was unaware of this payment until Bhardey informed them.
Bhardey expressed his concern for Mir Raza, stating he regarded him as a brother and that, after the family, he was the most affected. “After the family, if anyone was concerned, it was us,” he said.
However, the commission challenged his statement, suggesting that Bhardey and others had been repeatedly asking for money. Bhardey also noted that Mir Raza had gone missing suddenly the previous year.
Mir Raza’s mother confirmed that Bhardey was acting as his financial adviser but claimed he had never shared any information with the family.
Lawyer Jibran Nasir highlighted that Bhardey’s phone was inactive for two and a half hours after his last conversation with Mir Raza. Bhardey responded that he used his phone extensively during the day.
Additionally, Bhardey informed the commission that he was detained for 36 hours. The judicial panel summoned Gulistan-e-Jauhar SHO Kamran Qureshi and Head Muharrir Zeeshan to appear at the next hearing for further proceedings.
