ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has strongly condemned the reported demolition of a century-old mosque in Saharanpur, India, describing the action as part of a broader campaign against Islamic heritage and religious freedom.
Responding to media questions, Foreign Office Spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan said the destruction of the historic place of worship was “reprehensible” and reflected what Pakistan described as an ongoing Islamophobic and Hindutva-driven effort to erase Islamic heritage.
The spokesperson said the demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992 continued to stand as a stark example of religious intolerance, prejudice and hatred.
Pakistan urged the international community to take immediate notice of what it described as the systematic targeting of Muslims in India, including the alleged desecration and destruction of mosques and other places of worship.
Khan called for Indian authorities to be held accountable for actions that, according to Pakistan, undermine fundamental religious freedoms and the cultural heritage of minorities, particularly Muslims.
He stressed that the protection of religious sites and minority rights was essential to upholding basic principles of religious freedom and respect for cultural heritage.
