ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have reiterated their resolve to uphold democratic values and strengthen Pakistan’s constitutional framework.
In separate messages issued on the International Day of Democracy, they highlighted democracy’s role in ensuring public participation in decision-making and holding those in authority accountable to citizens.
President Zardari described the Constitution of 1973 as the cornerstone of Pakistan’s democratic structure, saying it provides the basis for the country’s political system and unity of the federation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, meanwhile, underscored the importance of Parliament, calling it the country’s foremost democratic forum and a reflection of the aspirations and collective voice of the people.
