LONDON: Renowned senior journalist and President of the Pakistan Press Club UK International, Shaukat Dar, has passed away.
He suffered a fatal heart attack on Tuesday evening. The funeral prayers and burial arrangements are expected to be announced within the next day or two.
Shaukat Dar was considered one of the pioneers of digital media in the United Kingdom and had been actively involved in journalism for nearly 35 years. His demise has deeply saddened the journalistic community across London and the UK.
Known for his high morals and cheerful personality, Shaukat Dar was widely respected and loved across all circles. His association with trade unions often saw him actively advocating for journalists’ rights. He was known to stand firmly by journalists facing injustices and was also prominent in protests supporting Pakistani media groups facing difficulties in the UK.
Journalists and social figures have paid heartfelt tributes to Shaukat Dar, describing him as the life of every gathering. Wherever he participated, he brought smiles to people’s faces. He was always active in addressing community issues and organizing community programs. Many have noted that he had personal friendships with almost everyone, and his absence will leave an irreplaceable void.
Members of the community expressed their condolences to his family and close associates, especially Waheed Ahmed, and prayed for his soul’s forgiveness and high ranks in paradise.
The High Commissioner of Pakistan in the UK, Taimur Khan, along with the Pakistan High Commission London, also expressed deep sorrow and grief over Shaukat Dar’s passing. They paid tribute to his services in journalism and his contributions to the community.
The Pakistan High Commission in London stated that Shaukat Dar’s work in journalism and community service will always be remembered. Apart from his journalistic pursuits, he was actively involved in social welfare initiatives within the Pakistani community and maintained close ties with the High Commission for community uplift projects.
