DUBAI: Two crew members suffered minor injuries after a tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
The maritime agency said military authorities had reported that the vessel was hit while making an inbound passage through the strategic waterway.
“Two crew have sustained minor injuries,” UKMTO said, adding that the tanker remained operational and was continuing towards its next port of call under its own power.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route that has witnessed attacks on commercial vessels during the ongoing Middle East conflict.
British maritime security company Vanguard Tech separately reported that the
UK-flagged tanker La Stephanie was struck by a drone while heading towards the Gulf. It also said two crew members sustained minor injuries.
The latest incident adds to security concerns for vessels navigating the strategically important waterway amid continued military confrontation in the region.
