PESHAWAR: Police investigating the death of a pregnant teenager in Danishabad have found no CCTV evidence showing a man accompanying the deceased girl and her mother.
The investigation team returned to the crime scene for a second consecutive day and examined CCTV recordings from nearby commercial areas.
Police also collected footage from four additional cameras, including one installed at the emergency entrance of Khyber Teaching Hospital.
According to investigators, none of the available recordings showed any man accompanying the mother and daughter during their movements.
Police said the two women did not collect an entry slip from the hospital reception and allegedly remained there for several hours while waiting for someone.
Investigators are now trying to establish which doctor examined them at the hospital and are questioning hospital staff and family members as part of the probe.
Police are also searching for the mobile phone belonging to the deceased. If recovered, the device will be sent for forensic analysis to help determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The post-mortem examination report is still awaited. Investigators said the report would also be reviewed to determine whether the teenager had been administered any prohibited or harmful substance before her death.
The victim’s mother has been arrested and booked in the murder case.
The 17-year-old girl was found hanging from a tree a day earlier. Her mother initially described the incident as a suicide but later told investigators that she had “only helped her daughter” after the girl became pregnant out of wedlock.
During questioning, the mother reportedly claimed that her daughter had wanted to end her life after an unsuccessful attempt to terminate the pregnancy.
Police said the case was being investigated from the angle of honour killing and assured that all aspects of the incident would be thoroughly examined.
