RAWALPINDI: Senior military leaders from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye have agreed to strengthen defence cooperation and translate commitments under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement into practical military collaboration, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Saturday.
The Chiefs of Defence Forces and Chiefs of General Staff of the three countries met in Riyadh to review the security environment and threats confronting Saudi Arabia.
According to the military’s media wing, the participants expressed strong condemnation of attacks targeting the Holy City of Makkah as well as civilian and economic infrastructure.
They also praised the Saudi Armed Forces for their vigilance and professionalism in safeguarding the Kingdom’s people and protecting its security.
The defence chiefs discussed measures to deepen cooperation between their armed forces, including greater intelligence sharing, enhanced military coordination and the integration of defence capabilities.
They also highlighted the longstanding ties and mutual confidence between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, saying the Riyadh meeting demonstrated the growing strength of their defence partnership.
The participants reaffirmed their resolve to implement the commitments made under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement and develop them into effective military cooperation, ISPR said.
They further reiterated their commitment to collective defence and expressed their determination to safeguard Saudi Arabia’s security, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Under the agreement, an armed attack against any one of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia or Türkiye is to be treated as an attack against all three countries, according to Pakistan’s Foreign Office.
The development comes days after Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in New York.
The foreign ministers reviewed progress on the implementation of the Makkah agreement, including preparations for setting up its General Secretariat, committees and working groups and initiating their respective functions.
