ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have praised security forces for operations against terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
In a statement, President Zardari said the operations reflected the country’s determination to confront terrorism. He added that efforts by foreign-backed militants and their local supporters to destabilise Pakistan would be thwarted.
Prime Minister Shehbaz said action against what the government calls “Fitna al-Khawarij” would continue until terrorism was eliminated and lasting peace secured. He said militants would not be allowed to threaten the country’s security.
