Pakistani forces already serving in Saudi Arabia, says DG ISPR

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has had military personnel deployed in Saudi Arabia for decades, with troops serving across several capabilities and domains, Inter-Services Public Relations Director-General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said.

Speaking to CNN on Wednesday, the military spokesperson described the presence as part of the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. He also linked the countries’ security cooperation with their broader diplomatic, political and people-to-people ties, including relations with Türkiye.

His comments follow a decision by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye to activate their collective defence commitments and arrange the rapid deployment of agreed forces and capabilities in Saudi Arabia.

The decision was announced after an emergency meeting of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement in Riyadh on Monday. A joint statement shared by Pakistan’s Foreign Office said any deployment would follow approved arrangements and each country’s national laws.

The three countries said the measures were intended to strengthen military readiness, integration and collective capacity. The agreement, signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye in August, treats an armed attack on one member as an attack on all.
