ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry has said Islamabad is on course to become Pakistan’s first plastic-free city, with the government seeking cooperation from traders and citizens to achieve the goal.
He made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation from the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Traders Association in Islamabad.
Talal Chaudhry said phasing out plastic would not only improve the federal capital’s appearance but also help curb environmental pollution.
He called on residents to minimise the use of plastic bags and switch to environmentally friendly alternatives.
The minister said the Plastic-Free Islamabad campaign would be implemented successfully through active participation and valuable suggestions from the business community and the public.
Representatives of the Traders Association assured the government of their full cooperation in efforts to make Islamabad a plastic-free city.
