Karachi hit by phased power outages amid K-Electric network strain

KARACHI: Residents across Karachi are facing electricity disruptions as K-Electric has reportedly decided to implement phased load-shedding following increased pressure on its power network amid overloading and a shortage of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Several feeders connected to grid stations have been switched off, affecting electricity supplies in multiple neighbourhoods across the metropolis.

According to reports, the power utility plans to carry out outages in phases, with each round lasting around one hour.

Areas reporting power cuts include Saddar, Clifton, Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and Korangi. Residents in Orangi, Liaquatabad, North Karachi, North Nazimabad, Malir, Landhi, SITE, Baldia and Maripur have also experienced disruptions.

Electricity outages have additionally been reported in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Hadeed and Scheme 33.

The Old City area and Razzaqabad are among the other localities affected by the power crisis.

The disruptions have raised concerns among residents as the utility’s electricity network faces mounting pressure, reportedly linked to overloading and limited LNG supplies.

The situation has added to difficulties for consumers across Karachi, where several areas are experiencing interruptions in their electricity supply.
