ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan has directed officials to promptly prepare the Punjab local government election schedule for approval, rejecting the provincial government’s request to hold polls in April 2027.
Punjab had cited winter weather and Ramadan as reasons for delaying the elections. The ECP said the province had previously agreed to a polling window between December 15 and January 15. It has given the provincial government one week to submit lists of District Returning Officers, Returning Officers and Assistant Returning Officers.
The commission also decided to move ahead with the cantonment election schedule. It said it had contacted the Ministry of Defence and the prime minister’s office about the polls but had not received a response.
