RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Army Major Wajahat Waheed was martyred in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack during a security operation in Balochistan, while security forces killed four terrorists in a separate engagement, the military’s media wing said on Monday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), intelligence reports indicated the presence of several hideouts belonging to the Indian-sponsored group Fitna Al Hindustan in Shadi Kaur, Pasni tehsil of Gwadar district, and Jattakabad in Kalat district.
The reports raised concerns over threats to the local population, prompting security forces to launch operations aimed at eliminating the militants and securing the affected areas, the ISPR said.
In the first operation, troops carried out an intelligence-based operation in Jattakabad, Kalat district, on October 18, 2026. After an intense exchange of fire, four terrorists were killed, while a substantial quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered from their hideout, according to the military’s statement.
Separately, security forces launched a series of clearance operations in Shadi Kaur, Pasni tehsil, Gwadar district. During one such operation, a force led by Major Wajahat Waheed was struck by an IED.
The 34-year-old officer, who belonged to Lahore, sustained fatal injuries and embraced martyrdom while performing his duties, the ISPR said.
The military’s media wing added that clearance and sanitisation operations were continuing to track down any remaining terrorists in the targeted areas.
It reaffirmed that counterterrorism efforts under the vision of Azm-e-Istehkam, approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan, would continue with full intensity. Security forces and law enforcement agencies remain determined to eradicate foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country, the statement added.
In a separate development on October 18, security forces killed eight more terrorists during three intelligence-based operations in Balochistan’s Quetta, Nushki and Khuzdar districts.
The operations were launched following intelligence reports about the presence of militants affiliated with the Indian-sponsored group Fitna Al Hindustan, the ISPR said.
