LAHORE: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari said the province’s overall crime rate had declined, while describing the increase in reported rape cases as deeply concerning.
Speaking to reporters in Lahore, Bukhari disputed claims that crime was rising and urged journalists to verify information before sharing it on social media. She accused some commentators of repeating claims circulated by what she called propaganda networks, and alleged that efforts were being made to discredit Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Bukhari said the chief minister had adopted a zero-tolerance policy toward sexual violence. She also claimed vehicle theft had dropped by 75% and that the overall crime rate had fallen into negative territory.
