KARACHI: A district court on Thursday turned down the bail application of Awam Raj Tehreek chief Iqrarul Hassan in a case related to the alleged posting of anti-state content on social media.
The latest decision marks the second rejection of Hassan’s bail plea. His earlier application was dismissed by Judicial Magistrate-East on October 22, 2026.
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) registered Case No. 101/2026 against Hassan under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) over allegations of sharing anti-state material online.
Speaking to reporters outside the court, Hassan’s counsel said the defence would move the Sindh High Court to challenge the decision and seek suspension of the order once the detailed judgment became available.
Earlier, on October 19, a judicial magistrate sent Hassan to judicial custody after rejecting the NCCIA’s request for an extension of his physical remand.
The agency had presented Hassan before Judicial Magistrate-East and sought further physical remand for investigation into the alleged social media posts. The court, however, declined the request and directed the NCCIA to file the challan within 14 days.
Hassan was arrested in Lahore’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and later transferred to Karachi, where he arrived at around 1am, according to the case details.
