Karachi: The government of Sindh on Tuesday just eight days before holding of by-election at NA-249 Karachi, has requested the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to postpone the by-election in the wake of third wave of coronavirus.
The Sindh government in its letter to the Chief Election Commissioner said that the country is in grip of third of wave of coronavirus adding that big cities of the country are facing new types of the global pandemic.
The letter reads that the burden on hospitals are on rise gradually adding that the rate spread of coronavirus in Karachi and Hyderabad has reached 7.8 percent from three percent.
The Sindh government requests that in the situation the holding of congregations, corner meetings and rallies will be dangerous adding that health department can’t afford extraordinary pressure of the pandemic. So, the government is requesting to the ECP to postpone the by-election going to held on NA-249.
Before this, the ECP has decided to impose ban on polling staff not to use mobile phones during the polling. The ECP in its notice apprised that only presiding officer can use mobile phone during the polling while man security personnel will not visit women polling stations.
