Fire at Islamabad’s Centaurus Mall extinguished

Islamabad: The fire at Centaurus Mall in Islamabad has been extinguished.

In a statement today, Chief Commissioner Islamabad Captain, retired, Muhammad Usman said the fire has been controlled after two-hour long operation.

He said fire brigade, Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Air Force and Rescue 1122 participated in the operation.

Earlier, the fire had erupted at Centaurus Mall in Islamabad where there is a light fire on the building’s exterior.

Senior police officials, including IG Islamabad Dr Akbar Nasir Khan, administration officers and rescue teams are at the spot while an alternative plan has been issued to maintain the flow of traffic.

The rescue teams safely pulled out the people trapped in the shopping mall from the back side of the building, after which the teams conducted a search operation inside the mall.

Fire brigades and a helicopter were also called to douse the fire.

No casualties reported thus far. The fire broke out at the Monal restaurant, sources revealed, adding that the entire food court was engulfed in flames.

The cause of the fire is yet to be identified.

Pakistan Navy had also assisted dousing the fire at the Islamabad shopping mall.

According to Pakistan Navy spokesperson, a three team of Pakistan Navy and three fire tenders were busy in extinguishing fire.
