Islamabad: The Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq had emphasized the importance of increasing the number of tax filers and revenue in recent meetings
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has established 145 district Tax Offices across the country to broaden the tax base, the newly established offices will work to bring fifteen to two million new taxpayers into the tax net by June, 2024
the new initiative will help in broadening the tax base and raising the tax-to-GDP ratio to the desired level, Grade 17 and 18 officers will head these offices and these offices will pave the way to bring all potential taxpayers into the tax net , the revenue district officers will obtain and use third party data on potential taxpayer are from various department and agencies.
Action against non-filers under Section 114 B introduced in Income Tax ordinance 201 will be initiated , Under the new section electricity and gas connections of those who do not file tax returns will be cut and mobile SIMs will be blocked , a new documentation law is also being introduced under which various institutions and department will be obliged to provide data to the FBR though on automated transmission system
Chairman NADRA has assured FBR to help broaden the tax base through data integration.
