Anmol alias Pinky acquitted in two more drug cases in Karachi

KARACHI: A Karachi court on Friday acquitted alleged drug trafficker Anmol, also known as Pinky, in two additional narcotics cases due to insufficient evidence.

The cases were registered with the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in 2018 and at the Gizri police station. With the latest verdicts, Pinky has been acquitted in five of the 22 cases registered against her.

During Friday’s proceedings, the suspect appeared before an additional district and sessions judge (South) through a video link from the women’s jail. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court ordered her release if she was not required in any other case.

In August, the court had already acquitted Pinky in three narcotics cases registered at the Gizri police station.

Pinky was reportedly arrested on May 12 during a joint operation by police and a civilian intelligence agency at her apartment in Karachi’s Garden area. Authorities accused her of operating a drug distribution network across the city.

However, she rejected the allegations, claiming that she had been taken into custody in Lahore around 15 days before being transferred to Karachi.

Following her arrest, authorities said they had recovered a weapon, cocaine and other drugs worth approximately Rs1.5 million. Investigators informed the court on May 13 that the operation had yielded 1,540 grams of cocaine and 6,970 grams of raw material.

The case attracted widespread public attention after a video showing Pinky being escorted by police without handcuffs at court premises went viral on social media. The apparent preferential treatment drew strong criticism from social media users.
