Three-day anti-polio drive has begun in 25 districts of Khyber Pakhtwankhwa (KPK) province and in districts of Balochistan province. Special security measures are made for the drive while anti-polio workers in FATA and lady health workers in Muzaffarabad boycotted the campaign as a protest against non-payment of remuneration.
A total of 5,486,250 children will be administered anti-polio vaccine in 25 KPK districts and special arrangements are made to administer the vaccine to the children of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) as well as Afghan refugees. Over 18,000 mobile teams and over 1,000 fixed teams are formed.
A total of 2,394,846 children will be administered anti-polio vaccine in 30 districts of Balochistan for which 6,773 teams are being formed.
According to sources lady health workers have boycotted the drive in Azad Kashmir over non-payment of salaries for eight months and this would deprive over 700,000 children from being administered anti-polio drops.
