Assault charges filed against doctor at Jinnah Hospital amid young doctors’ outpatient department boycott

KARACHI: Case has been registered against the attackers of a doctor in the Medical ICU of Jinnah Hospital, Karachi, following an incident of violence last night, based on the complaint of the affected doctor.

The case has been filed at the President Police Station, naming 12 individuals, and including charges of assault, fighting, and vandalism.

According to the FIR, the incident occurred at around 2:30 AM when Dr. Shiva Ram informed the police that 12 individuals had assaulted doctors, caused destruction in the ward, and fled the scene.

The complaint also states that the individuals brought a deceased patient from another ward and filed a case against the doctors to conceal their own actions.

The family members claim that 17-year-old Nisar Ali, who was suffering from a respiratory illness, did not receive adequate treatment in the hospital, leading to his death.

However, hospital authorities maintain that the patient was admitted to the ICU in critical condition due to sepsis and infection.

In response to the incident, young doctors staged a protest at the hospital and boycotted outpatient departments (OPDs).

The protesting doctors demand that all individuals involved in the incident be arrested immediately and legal action be taken against them.
