Ban on Soft, Energy Drinks, PFA Warns of Stringent Action

Lahore (August 15, 2017): Punjab Food Authority has initiated a stringent operation against the carbonated and energy drinks at educational institutions all across the province after the expiry of the deadline of the ban it imposed on these drinks at the educational institutions.

According to the Director General of the Authority Noor-ul-Ameen Mengal  under the Institutional Food Standard Regulations 2017 carbonated and energy drinks could not be made available within 100-meter distance from all government and private educational institutions, educational academies, and coaching centers anywhere in the province.

According to Mengal the ban is being slapped in the light of the recommendations of Scientific Panel because carbonated cola and energy drinks contain phosphoric acid and caffeine are harmful to the growth of children and are particularly harmful for bones.

Notices have already been issued to all the carbonated and energy drink producing companies to not to supply their products to educational institutions and stringent action would be taken against the violators, Mengal warned.
