Breaking: At Least 24 People Wounded in Lahore Blast

Lahore (August 7, 2017): At least 24 people injured, when high tension electric wires fell on a truck that caused huge blast. 

The nature of the explosion could not be immediately ascertained but initial reports suggest that it occurred after a truck crashed into a transformer on Out Fall Road in Islampura area. The rescue teams started shifting injured to nearby hospitals.

The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals where an emergency has been imposed. Due to a power breakdown following the blast, hospital authorities are facing problems in carrying out emergency operations.

MS Munshi hospital said that 24 wounded were brought, while 12 people were discharged after giving first aid.

10 of the injured are under treatment while two have been referred to Mayo hospital.

It is suspected that the truck was coming from Swat, sources informed.

Police and other law enforcement personnel including forensic experts have reached the blast site, which has been cordoned off by the LEAs.

Due to a power breakdown following the blast, hospital authorities are facing problems in carrying out emergency operations.

According to initial report the blast was occurred after the truck clashed in a transformer as it caused the crater of six feet and shattered the windowpanes of nearby buildings. One of the building partially damaged.DIG operation Haider Asharaf said that rescue teams being faced difficulties in rescue activities, however most of the rescue work has been completed.

“The police is investigating the reason behind the blast,” he said.

Last month 26 people, including nine policemen, were killed while 58 others were injured in a bombing attack near the Arfa Karim IT Tower on Lahore’s Ferozepur Road.

Another blast, targeting a census team in April, had resulted in the deaths of six people, including five forces personnel.

A suicide blast on February 13 had ripped through a camp of protesting chemists in front of the Punjab Assembly, leaving 13 people dead and 70 others wounded.
