ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet has ratified a defence cooperation agreement between Pakistan and Kuwait, signed in June 2023. The decision was made at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad.
The five-year pact provides for collaboration in areas including military production, communications, research, military media, and cultural and sporting activities. A joint military committee will oversee implementation, including exercises and official visits. The agreement renews automatically unless either country opts to end it, and requires both sides to protect confidential information and resolve disputes through diplomatic channels. Kuwait ratified the agreement in July 2023.
Governor to handle KP administrative powers during emergency
The cabinet also approved transferring certain powers normally exercised by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister to the provincial governor for managing routine affairs during the emergency period. The governor will report monthly to the federal government on how the powers are used.
New banknote designs and Rs10 coin approved
After reviewing proposals from artists and consulting relevant stakeholders, the cabinet approved designs for new currency notes. The notes are expected to include stronger anti-counterfeiting features and more durable materials. It also approved replacing the Rs10 banknote with a coin.
The cabinet further ratified decisions from the October 26 meeting of the Cabinet Committee on State-Owned Enterprises and endorsed several decisions made by the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Cases.
