CDF Asim Munir commence Two-Day official visit to Turkey: State Media

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir has arrived in Turkey on a two-day official visit, according to state broadcasts on Monday.

Sources within security agencies indicate that during his stay, General Munir will participate in crucial discussions with Turkish military and political officials to explore areas of mutual interest. He was received with a warm reception upon landing.

This visit follows a recent trip by Turkish Land Forces Commander General Metin Tokel to Pakistan, where he met with General Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

The two military leaders discussed cooperation on professional military issues, regional security challenges, and ways to enhance bilateral defense collaboration, as per the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

During his time in Pakistan, General Tokel also visited the Naval Headquarters in Islamabad, where he met with Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf.

Discussions covered maritime security concerns and regional cooperation in the naval domain. Additionally, he met with Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu at the Air Headquarters to talk about military interoperability and regional security issues.

The Turkish delegation commended the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and recognized their efforts in maintaining regional stability, the ISPR stated.

Pakistan and Turkey maintain a deep-rooted brotherly relationship, founded on strategic, political, defense, and economic ties.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited Istanbul to meet President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, reaffirming the close friendship between the two nations. Both leaders agreed to strengthen economic links, aiming to boost bilateral trade to $5 billion.
