Karachi (November 10, 2017): Representatives of civil society has written letter to the federal government opposing removal of Inspector General Police Sindh A D Khawaja.
The letter says that Sindh government’s recommendation for removing AD Khawaja as provincial chief is contrary to the order of the Sindh High Court which had also stopped the provincial government to remove police officers before the completion of their tenure period, the letter added.

Barrister Faisal Siddiqui called Sindh government’s recommendation for removing AD Khawaja as the top police officer of the province a violation of the order of the Sindh High Court. Uncalled for transfers and appointments of police officers are also against the law, he added.
The letter asks the federal government not to implement the probable recommendations of the Sindh government about the IGP Sindh A D Khawaja.
The civil society has sent the letter to the Cabinet and Establishment Divisions in Islamabad.
It may be mentioned here The highest court of the province- the Sindh High Court- had issued an order to not to remove IG Police Sindh A D Khawaja from his post.
It may be mentioned here that on September 7 the Sindh High Court (SHC) threw out Sindh’s government’s order to remove Khawaja as Sindh Police’s top boss.
A Divisional Bench of the SHC bench had also restored the IGP’s powers of transfers and postings within the police department, declaring all postings and transfers carried out in the province after July 7 as illegal.
On April 3 this year the SHC had dismissed the provincial government’s decision to remove the Sindh police chief after a group of activists approached the SHC challenging his controversial removal.
The legal wrangling between civil rights activists and the Sindh government, that lasted for over ten months, had ended with the court’s orders but not without the ruling Peoples Party’s remaining disgruntled with the verdict still.
However, on October 28 the Sindh Cabinet had approved removal of A D Khawaja as Inspector General of Police and replacing him with Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti as new top cop of the province.
