KURRAM: Fierce fighting between two rival Khawarij factions in Central Kurram has claimed the lives of at least 18 individuals, with several others reported missing.
Sources from security agencies stated that last night, heavy gunfire erupted between the Kazim group of Fitna-ul-Khawarij and the Mumtaz Umti faction in the Manato area near Chinarak police station. The conflict was reportedly sparked over financial disputes.
During the skirmish, 18 members of the Mumtaz Umti group were killed, and three others are unaccounted for, missing in action. Additionally, one member of the Kazim group, the leader of the Fatna al-Khawarij faction, was killed, with another member missing.
Graves are currently being dug in the Manato region to accommodate the fallen fighters. Historically, the region has witnessed multiple violent clashes between different Khawarij factions. Analysts emphasize that such violence underscores that these groups are driven not by religious or ideological motives but by personal interests, greed, and power struggles.
Local residents have expressed concern over the impact of these internal conflicts on their daily lives, noting that ordinary citizens are suffering due to ongoing violence among these factions.
Experts have reaffirmed their confidence in the government’s measures to combat terrorism and insurgency. They warn that these Khawarij factions are not only enemies of the state but also willing to shed each other’s blood in their pursuit of dominance, wealth, and influence.
