WEB DESK: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi avoided responding to questions from the media during his visit to Oslo, where he met Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre as part of his Northern Europe tour.
As the leaders exited a joint media event, Norwegian journalist Helle Lyng called out to Modi, asking why he refused to take questions from what she described as “the freest press in the world.” The Indian premier did not reply and continued walking.
Lyng later posted footage of the moment on social media, criticizing the state of press freedom and human rights in India. Other clips shared online showed her attempting to continue questioning before security officials stepped in.
During a later briefing hosted by Indian diplomats, Lyng again raised concerns, asking Indian representatives why the international community should trust them amid allegations of human rights abuses in the country.
